What happens when you have Diabetes?

What happens when you have Diabetes?

Did you know that people can live with Type 2 diabetes for up to 10 years without even knowing they have the disease?

Frequent Urination; fatigue; yellow colored urine; blurred vision; slow healing wounds; genital itching; tiredness are just some of the signs of diabetes. One quick way to tell if you are pre-diabetic or diabetic is knowing your Blood Glucose Level. You can carry out this test on yourself at home.

What is happening when our Blood Glucose level is out of range?
Our body needs energy to function. We get Energy from Glucose. Our stomach converts the Carbohydrates in our food into Glucose. Glucose then travels through the blood stream activating the Pancreas to produce Insulin. You can think of Insulin as a key, accompanying the Glucose through the bloodstream and into the cells. Eventually the Blood to Glucose level begins to drop, and the excess glucose is stored away in the Liver.

In order to keep our body’s working at optimum, we need to eat the right diet, while maintaining a healthy Pancreas and Liver.

If you have diabetes, your body either doesn’t make insulin (Type 1) or can’t use the Insulin (Type 2) and when there isn’t enough insulin or the cells stop responding to insulin, too much blood sugar will remain in your bloodstream. Over time, that can cause serious health problems, such as heart disease, blurred vision and kidney disease.

Diabetes is a chronic (long-lasting) health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy.

Pre-diabetes is when the body is experiencing high glucose level and Low to No Insulin production.

According to International Diabetes Federation warnings, the majority of new cases of type 2 diabetes is in the developing world, in countries like India. The prevalence of Type 2 diabetes is from changes to our lifestyle habits and diet patterns, urbanization and erosion of traditional health practices. More people are presenting as pre-diabetic yet 8 out of 10 do not know that they have it. Prediabetes raises your risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

The good news is if you are prediabetic, a healthy lifestyle change program can help you reverse it.
